Carpool

A carpool is 2 or more people commuting by one vehicle. Carpooling is oftentimes an informal arrangement between co-workers or friends who have similar work schedules and live in close proximity to each other. Carpooling is an excellent way to cut down on commute costs and, if carpoolers rotate the use of the private vehicle they can also reduce the wear and tear on their automobile when compared to driving alone every day. In many carpools, one person prefers to drive their own car and arrangements are made with their carpool partners to contribute money to share the cost of gasoline. Rideshare maintains a database of more than 1,000 people who are carpooling or have expressed an interest in carpooling. After filling out a short registration form, Rideshare can send an interested carpooler a list of people who have similar work and home locations, similar work schedules and who have also expressed an interest in carpooling. All commuter information is kept strictly confidential except for the name of the commuter and a contact phone number. Rideshare also encourages people who are already carpooling to register with its database so that they can be kept informed about new program and promotions, so they can take advantage of the Guaranteed Ride Home program and so that they can find other carpoolers in the event the existing carpool needs a new carpool partner or wants to expand the number in their carpool.
