Rideshare Week
 |
Rideshare Week, October 16-20 is San Luis Obispo County's annual campaign to replace single occupant vehicle work trips with carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, walking, and riding the bus. This year, there will be rideshare activities and promotions throughout the month of October - be sure to click on the link below for specifics.
|
| In support of Rideshare Week, the Transportation Choices Program offers employers free promotional materials and commuter services as a way of relieving our congested streets and highways, improving air quality, parking constraints and transportation costs. Employees who live and work in San Luis Obispo County are eligible to win the fantastic prizes, including the TRIP AROUND THE WORLD and other fantastic local prizes. Be sure to send in your pledge sheet by October 20, 2006. Click here for more details! |
Trips Reduced Innovatively by Partial Stipend (TRIPS)
The Trips Reduced Innovatively by Partial Stipend (TRIPS) Program offers employers and /or individual commuters a small stipend to assist with the implementation of a pilot project intended to stimulate the use of alternative transportation at a worksite or promote alternative transportation services and reduce emissions from the drive alone vehicles. The amount of stipend will vary depending on the specific project, however, any single stipend will be no more than $500. Click here to read more about the TRIPS Program and to obtain TRIPS applications for businesses or individuals.
What are Transportation Choices?
There are many options for getting around town
and going to work other than driving alone. Walking, biking,
taking the bus, carpooling, vanpooling, skateboarding, and
roller-blading are all forms of transportation. Other options
are also available, such as working compressed work schedules
and teleworking.
What is the Transportation Choices Program?
The Transportation Choices Program (TCP) is a free
program offered to businesses and organizations throughout San
Luis Obispo County that choose to encourage the use of
alternative transportation to their employees. The goal of the
Transportation Choices Program is to provide employers with the
tools they need to encourage a change in employee commuting
habits.
As TCP partners, Ride-On, San Luis Obispo
Regional Rideshare (SLO Rideshare) and the Air Pollution Control
District (APCD), would like to provide no-cost
consultation services and presentations to your business and
employees.
The TCP partners believe there is a need to
change the ways we commute to work. A simple look to the Los
Angeles areas illustrates how a huge highway infrastructure has
done little to reduce or eliminate major traffic congestion. The
organizations and businesses that choose to participate in the
Transportation Choices Program help preserve our air quality and
minimize traffic congestion in San Luis Obispo County.
Benefits to the Community
As individual agencies our mission is to
reduce traffic congestion, promote alternative transportation
and maintain clean air. By making a choice and using an
alternative transportation, there are fewer cars on the road
during the peak commuting hours, decreasing both traffic and air
pollution.
Benefits to Employers
Offering alternatives to employees has been
shown to increase employee morale and productivity.
Providing incentives to employees who choose to use alternative
transportation not only encourages continued use, but can also
result in greater employee satisfaction. Further, employees who
carpool, vanpool, bus or walk together can build relationships
that will help them work more cohesively as a team.
Please take the time to review the enclosed
information and join us in our effort to encourage the use of
alternative transportation. Your business can select the steps
you would like to use to encourage the use of transportation
alternatives at your facility by checking the appropriate boxes
on the attached
form.
Bikes in Bloom (historical promotion)

- Pedal to the Past - Sunday, May 7th

|
Click on Bike Month logo above to get specifics on each event.
Other fun activities include a Bike Art Window Dressings competition for local businesses and Art of Cycling classes that will be held throughout the month of May. Many bike rides and other events will occur in May and you will soon be able to check out the full schedule on a calendar that will be hosted on the SLO County Bicycle Coalition website (read more).
Please join the TCP this May as we celebrate bicycling as an effective means of improving health, reducing air pollution, conserving energy, and promoting the "livability" of our communities by reducing traffic congestion and noise.
